I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work in a number of different environments. I’ve had 5 years of experience working in the clinical field, assisting individuals with chronic diseases (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, mental illness). It has been inspiring watching individuals take on the challenge of improving their health, and seeing how much of a difference a small change can make on their whole life.
I’ve also had the pleasure of working alongside a number of sporting teams, including Brisbane Roar (Women’s), Brisbane Tigers, Western Mustangs, UQFC and most recently, Capalaba Bulldogs FC and Grange Thistle FC. Assisting within the community and semi-professional sporting realm has given me the opportunity to provide health advice early in life to these individuals, so they can not only be better athletes, but have more tools to look after their health long-term.
When I first started working in the health industry, I wanted people to understand how important exercise is to their health. As time has gone on, I’ve realised it’s so much more than that. Exercise is important, but there are so many aspects of behaviour that need to be integrated to put you in the best possible position to manage your health. I find it so fulfilling to support people to the lightbulb moment, where they realise they can do all these positive things to improve their health and still enjoy the life they want to live.
I feel so grateful that I have the chance to provide support individuals throughout all phases of life. Whether they're active within the community and want to be better at their chosen sport, or if they just want to be managing their health to enjoy all other joys of life, there is a way to help. My aim is to provide them with the tools they need to continue to be effective within their own environment, and be provided with the skills to manage their health over many years to come.
